How to Grow Beetroot at Home

Beetroots, also known as beets are highly nutritious, tasty and delicious, and are enjoyed by people during the mid-spring upto the mid-summers, and in many delicious dishes like Beet Veggie Noodles, Beet Tahini Sauce, Kale Salad, Quinos Burger, Beet Greens and many more tasty snacks and foods. Beets are packed with many important vitamins and minerals that are not commonly found in our routine diet, and they also have various heath benefits like fights inflammation, improves digestion, supports brain health, has some anti-cancer properties, maintains blood pressure, the list goes on forever. A single beetroot contains roughly 44 calories, 10gm Carbs, 2gm Fibre, 0.2gm Fat, 1.7gm Protein, Folate, Potassium, Copper, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Manganese and Iron. Furthermore, as they are high in copper, it energies our body and mind, and due to the presence of manganese in beets, it also helps in bone formation, brain function and nutrient metabolism.

Learning about beetroots is interesting, isn’t it? To give you some more information and knowledge about Beetroots, and how they are grown, here in this blog, I will be showing you the art of growing beetroots at home.



PART 1 Planting Beets
1. Take a pot and mix 50% Garden Soil, 30% Vermicompost and 20% Cocopeat, and make sure the pH level is between 6.5-7.

2. Make a few holes in the soil at a distance of at least 10cm in between and then put a few beetroot seeds in it.

3. Cover the holes with a very thin layer of the same potting mix, and then water it throughly.

4. Remove if any weeds are seen growing near it, and protect it from birds using a net.




PART 2 Harvesting the Beets
1. Fertilise the beets every month using nitrogen rich fertiliser such as Vermicompost, or a chemical fertiliser like N-P-K.

2. Done! You can now harvest and enjoy the beetroots when they are around 8cm wide.
