Top 2 Ways to Plant a Lemon Seed

Lemons adds a whole new flavour and taste to your meal, and delights the taste buds and energises the body by its sour and citrus taste. They are packed with Fibre, Vitamin C, and many other amazing plant compounds. They help in maintaining weight, promotes a healthy heart, improves digestion, and has various other health benefits. The Citric Acid present in it can also help prevent kidney stones by increasing the pH and volume of urine. Your digestive system can easily absorb Iron from meat and other animal products, but the Iron from Plants can not be absorbed properly. But, consuming Lemons can easily solve this by improving the absorption of Iron from plant sources. It has many compounds that kills the cancer cells, and helps prevent cancer, but, this has only been shown in animals till now. And they can easily be grown from a seed at home, even in a small area like in the balcony.

And here in this blog, I will be discussing a few ways that you can use to start your first lemon growing venture at home.


NO 1 Growing Seeds directly in Soil

1. Prepare a potting mix that has 45% Garden Soil, 30% Vermicompost, and 25% Cocopeat in a separate bucket or pot.

2. Take a 4-5 Inch wide pot that is about 5-7 Inch deep.

3. Make a few holes at the bottom of the pot, and put a few pieces of stone or gravel on it.

4. Fill in the pot using the potting mix made before, and make sure to leave 1 inch from the top of the pot.

5. Make a few 1 cm deep holes in the soil.

6. Take a fully ripened organic lemon, and then pull out the biggest seeds from the lemon.

7. Wash the seeds in water to get rid of the gel-like coating which may have rotten the seeds.

8. Put the lemon seeds in warm water for 24 hours to help seeds sprout quickly.

9. Then, put the seeds into the holes made in the soil, and cover it up with the same potting mix.

10. Cover the top of the pot using a plastic sheet, and make a few holes using a toothpick of fork in it for proper air ventilation.

11. Keep the pot in a warm location, and water it regularly.

12. After the seeds sprout, remove the plastic sheet.

13. Transplant the seedlings in a much bigger pot.


NO 2 Sprouting Seeds in Paper Towel

1. Take a paper towel and put some water on it.

2. Smooth it out for any wrinkles.

3. Take some seeds from an organic lemon, and put it in a cup of warm water overnight.

4. Clean the seeds to get rid of the gel-like coating.

5. Cut the outer white layer of it to expose the brown coloured seed.

6. Peel off the thin brown layer, by using your fingernail.

7. Put the seeds in the wet paper towel.

8. Fold the paper towel to cover the seeds up, and put the towel in a plastic bag.

9. Seal the plastic bag and put it in a dark, warm location until the lemons seeds sprouts.

10. Transplant the seedlings in a well draining potting soil when they are 0.5-1.5 inch tall.

11. Put the pot where the lemon plants are growing, to a warm and sunny location.
