What is Tata Play? How is it different from Tata Sky?

Tata Sky is an Indian broadcast satellite service provider that uses MPEG-4 digital compression, and uses INSAT-4A and GSAT-10 satellite to transmit information. Recently, Tata Sky had changed the name to Tata Play that plays a role as a content distribution platform irrespective of the technology. Along with the rebranding, it had also made a change in its services by adding many combo packs which includes both the streaming apps and TV Channels. And one of the major changes that Tata Play had brought to its plan is that it offers many TV Channels along with 12 applications just in a single bundle.

Tata Play Binge also hosts content from over 13 leading OTT Apps using a single User Interface while giving the flexibility of payment and subscription. Through Tata Play, companies aim to signify their products and services and their wish to be future-ready along with making the tomorrow better than today for the end-consumers.

Tata Play currently offers 601 channels, 495 SD Channels and over 99 HD Channels and many services, and along with many other active services. As of today, Tata Play serves more than 22 million users which is around 40% of all the DTH users in India, making it the largest DTH service provider in India. Tata Play (formerly Tata Sky) had entered into an agreement with the French firm Technicolor to supply 4K Set-Top boxes from the early 2015.
