How to Make Paneer Tikka Masala at Home

Paneer Tikka Masala is a punjabi dish that people love to eat along with a few Naans, Rotis or Parathas for their dinner, whenever they are outside in a restaurant on a Sunday evening spending time with their family and friends. Paneer Tikka Masala is a powerful and flavourful dish that delights your taste buds with its tomato-onion curry sauce and marinated grilled paneer (cottage cheese), that will surely give you a glimpse of heaven. But, first of all, let’s talk about what is actually Paneer Tikka Masala, and can it be cooked at home? The name, Paneer Tikka Masala contains three main components, Paneer is a vegetarian and protein packed dairy product, that is used as a healthy substitute for chicken, lamb or any other meat. Tikka refers to food that has been grilled. Whereas, Masala means that various spices are mixed together to put it into gravy to make it more tasty and mouthwatering.

And here in this blog, I will be presenting you the art of making restaurant style Paneer Tikka Masala at home.


Making Paneer Tikka

1. Take fresh curd, and add ginger-garlic paste, tandoori masala, kasuri methi, lemon juice, chaat masala, cumin-coriander powder, red chilli powder, and salt and mix it well.

2. Add paneer cubes in it, and lightly coat it will the same mixture. Cover the bowl with a plate, and leave it for an hour to marinate.

3. Then, heat oil on a non-stick pan, and put the paneer cubes on it.

4. Shallow fry it on medium flame till they become brown from the edges.

5. After shallow frying it, move the paneer to a plate and keep it aside.


Making Gravy

1. Heat oil on pan over medium heat, and put dry coriander seeds, dry red chilli, cardamom, cinnamon and cashew nuts, and saute it for a minute. And add onions to it, and cook it until it becomes brown.

2. Now, add tomatoes and salt to it, and mix well.

3. Cook it until the tomatoes become mushy, and stir it in between. Add turmeric powder, garam masala, red chilli powder, and mix well for a minute.

4. Turn off the gas and put the mixture to a plate to cool down.

5. After 4-5 minutes, grind the mixture in a mixer grinder, and add 1/2 cup water to it before grinding.

6. Transfer it to a pan and add 1/2 cup water to it. Bring it to a boil on medium flame.

7. Stir and cook it for a minute, and then add the paneer tikkas to it.

8. Cook it until it becomes thick, and add fresh cream to it and mix well.

9. Done! Now you can take it out of the flame.
